Confit of Tasmanian possum served with a Davidson plum compote on toasted brioche.

Bread
Coopers stout damper served with a lemon myrtle olive oil and bush spiced Dukkah.

Entree
Daintree vanilla bean cured crocodile fillet cooked Sous vide and served with cider braised pears and a tangelo and wattle seed emulsion.

Main
Bush tomato crusted emu fillet served with a liquorice jus and roasted baby beets. 

Dessert
A mixed dessert plate of wattle seed brulee, Hennessey roasted strawberries topped with a pepper berry meringue, sugarbag honey and goats cheese sorbet with a toasted macadamia bread.

Friday – Cat’s Meow Cabaret presents the Nine Lives Cabaret Club…Unfurl your inner feline and slink out for a night of daring and delicious entertainment for grown-ups. From raunch to paunch, deviants to diamantes, come join the crème de la crème of the Cat’s Meow Cabaret as they tease and trick their way out of the afterlife.

Sunday – Wind down your late night Festival woes with a journey full of musical wonderment from across the country. Jamesy Ohh, Bec Matthews, ‘Aiba (QLD), Off the Page (spoken word), Junior Bowles (WA), Alice Springs Desert Music Club – Festival Jam

The event will feature the Bushfoods Iron Chef Cook Off. We’re challenging our chefs to cook over a campfire with mystery ingredients. One of this Sunday’s contestants, Chris Messenger, hails from England and has worked in kitchens with the likes of Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsey. Having only arrived in Australia 3 months ago Chris had never heard of any of the Australian Bushfoods, let alone cooked with them, so come along and see him compete with the locals.

The event will see the launch of Alice On The Menu. This map will allow diners to follow the map to various eateries and find exciting, one of a kind dishes made with local produce and native Australian Bushfoods.

The second heat of the Recipe Competition will also be taking place during the picnic. Come and cheer on local cooks as they try their best to impress the judges!

Food available from the Bean Tree Cafe, Kungka’s Can Cook and freshly baked damper. You will also have the chance to taste some amazing one off recipes from the entrants of the Recipe Competition and Iron Chef teams.

At the Saturday matinee audiences will select the People’s Choice Award winner and watch as the judges decide the winners of our two mentorship prizes this year! One lucky young designer will receive a cash prize donated by Sustainable Couture, as well as the opportunity to work with the group to learn about development of techniques and ideas. One other designer will head to Melbourne later this year, where they will be mentored by Dana Lenko (owner and designer of Lenko designs) on the ins and outs of designing in the fashion industry. There is also the Carmel Ryan Adult Encouragement Award, a cash prize given to a designer who shows potential in creating wearable art.

The evening show will feature the coveted Central Craft Acquisition Award and the Territory Loans Masterclass Award, as well as the various category winners.

Primary school students have also been working hard this year and we are excited to see who will take out the performance prizes as well as the Alice Springs Camera House Encouragement Award.

Red Hot Arts Central Australia takes pleasure in inviting you to celebrate the Opening of the Alice Desert Festival 2012. Herald in the beginning of another stunning display of arts and culture as we embark on a Festival that speaks of the unique space in which we find ourselves.

In true Alice Springs style, expect to be surprised and get ready to partake in the festivities that will well and truly get everyone moving! This will be your first chance to pick up a copy of the 2012 Program, hot off the press from our friends at Colemans Printing. You’ll also be able to preview some of the fantastic events that await you across the next two months.
